There are more Catholics than in any other Christian Church or organization. However numbers do not mean that they are right about everything. Most all of the Catholics that I have met have been very sweet humble people. The word Catholic means universal, which is certainly true of Jesus Christ, because he is for every one. The Catholics claim to be the one and only true church of Jesus Christ, just like all the other denominations do. Most every Religion claims to be the only true religion also. On what do the Catholics base this claim? They say that Peter was the first Pope, because Jesus told Peter that he was the rock and upon him he would build his church, they say, but let us further examine this passage of scriptures.^“When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:13-18). Jesus did not say that Peter was the rock that he would build his church upon, but on what Peter said, that Jesus was the Christ, The Messiah, The Son of the living God. Jesus is the rock, and what Peter said about Jesus is what he would build his church upon. When Peter died he was crucified upside down because he told the Romans that he was not worthy to be crucified as his Lord was. When Peter died he had not even heard of a Pope or the Catholic Church which was started later on after his death and they claim him as their first Pope. Peter was a leader of the early church at Jerusalem, but so was James and John, then came Paul, a great teacher and leader who brought the Gospel to the Gentiles. The word Church comes from the Greek word Ecclesia, which means the called out people , not a building or denomination. Jesus said; “neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21). Jesus said his Kingdom is in our hearts, and his Kingdom is not of this world. “the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands. “ (Acts 7:48).The way the Catholic church teaches is that you have to work your way to Heaven, and that if your good works out weigh your bad works, then you might have a chance to get into heaven when you die. This doctrine is a false teaching and is totally unscriptural.“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9). The Catholic Church has a horrible history of suppressing their people and keeping them in darkness. They have told their people that they must confess their sins to a Priest to be forgiven, which is against the Bible. “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee,and mine iniquity have I not hid.I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.”(Psalm 32:1-5). Absolute power and greed corrupt absolutely. They even have taught in the past that you could buy your loved ones out of Hell by paying money to the priests who would send a good portion to the Pope and his Cardinals. There is so much ceremonialism in their church. The Bible tells us As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:  rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” (Colossians 2:6-8). The only ceremony that Jesus commanded us to keep is Communion. Jesus said, “as often as you do this, do this in remembrance of me.” Jesus wants you to be set free from the bondage of rules and lies from man, imposed upon you from the Catholic Church or any denomination, church or religion which claims you have to work your way to Heaven. True Christianity teaches, God reaching out to man through his Son Jesus Christ, not man working his way up to God ! However if you are saved you will want to work for the Lord, and reach as many souls as you can for Jesus Christ.“You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. “(John 8:32).How can a Catholic Priest counsel, and help any one with marriage problems, and child raising when they have themselves never been married or had any children of their own to raise? One good thing is that, a lot of the Catholics are probably saved, even though they may not know it, according to (Romans 10:9,10).”that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” It is so sad that the Catholics have to live in fear not knowing for sure about their Salvation.Many become discouraged and fall by the way side, because they can’t keep themselves saved. If I was a Catholic I would probably have to live in the church so I could confess my sins to the priest in the confessional box many times a day, so I could be sure and be saved from hell. “and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:15). The Catholics have filled much of the world with a knowledge of Jesus Christ, but it has been a gospel of fear and works which is not the true Gospel. The word Gospel means Good News, and the Good News is that you don’t have to work your way to Heaven, it is a free gift by grace, by receiving Jesus Christ into your heart. GRACE is, a Gift, Received, At, Christ’s, Expense.

Simon surnamed Peter  died 33-34 years after the death of Christ.  According to Smith’s Bible Dictionary there is “satisfactory evidence that he and Paul were the founders of the church at Rome, and died in that city. The time and manner of the apostle’s martyrdom are less certain. According to the early writers, he died at or about the same time with Paul, and in the Neronian persecution, A.D. 67,68. All agree that he was crucified. Origen says that Peter felt himself to be unworthy to be put to death in the same manner as his Master, and was therefore, at his own request, crucified with his head downward.”
James the son of Zebedee:  He was put to death by Herod Agrippa I  shortly before the day of the Passover, in the year 44 or about 11 years after the death of Christ.  From Acts 12: 1-2.

John: No death date given by early writers.  Death date is by conjecture only and is variously assigned as being between 89 AD to 120 AD. It is thought that  John is the only disciple who died of old age,( except for possibly Simon the Canaanite) no thanks to the Romans who tried to boil him in oil, but he wouldn’t boil, because the Lord had other plans for him. The Romans exiled him to a prison on the island of Patmos, thinking that he couldn’t do any damage there, but that is where God gave him the Book of Revelation, which has gone on to be a witness to countless numbers of people ever since.

Andrew:  No accurate death date given. A variety of traditions say he preached in Scythia, in Greece, in Asia Minor and Thrace.  He is reported to have been crucified at Patrae in Achaia.

Philip:  Again, the Bible does not say when he died nor do we have accurate information.  According to tradition he preached in Phrygia, and died at Hierapolis. Update: FoxNews July 27, 2011 Tomb of the Apostle Phillip is found in Hierapolis.

Bartholomew: There is no information concerning his death, not even by tradition

Matthew: He must have lived many years as an apostle, since he was the author of the Gospel of Matthew which was written at least twenty years after the death of Christ. There is reason to believe that he stayed for fifteen years at Jerusalem, after which he went as missionary to the Persians, Parthians and Medes. There is a legend that he died a martyr in Ethiopia.

Thomas: The earlier traditions, as believed in the fourth century, say he preached in Parthia or Persia, and was finally buried at Edessa. The later traditions carry him farther east.   His martyrdom whether in Persia or India, is said to have been by a lance, and is commemorated by the Latin Church on December 21 the Greek Church on October 6, and by the Indians on July 1.

James Alpheus : We know he lived at least five years after the death of Christ because of mentions in the Bible.  According to tradition, James son of Alpheus was thrown down from the temple by the scribes and Pharisees; he was then stoned, and his brains dashed out with a fuller’s club.

Simon the Canaanite – No information either in the Bible or by tradition.

Jude (Thaddeus): according to tradition Jude taught in Armenia, Syria and Persia where he was martyred.  Tradition tells us he was buried in Kara Kalisa in what is now Iran.

Paul ( Saul): Was beheaded by the Romans in Rome according to church history when the Romans were trying to stomp out Christianity.

Judas Iscariot: Shortly after the death of Christ Judas killed himself. According to the Bible he hanged himself,“And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.” (Matthew 27:5) at Aceldama, on the southern slope of the valley of Hinnom, near Jerusalem. Some people think that Judas might have gotten saved after he realized what he had done. What do you think?

” Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” ( II Timothy 3:12).

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.” ( John 15:18-20).

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12).

The Bible records many miracles occurring in the Hebrew month of Nisan on the 17^th day. No other day except Passover is mentioned as many times in the Bible. According to the Torah and traditional Jewish interpretation, other events that occurred on Nisan 17 include the following:

1.  Nisan 17, Noah’s Ark safely rested on Mt. Ararat (Genesis 8:4). Note that the seventh month was later designated as the first month at the time of the Exodus by God himself. (Exodus 12:2).
2. Nisan 17, Hebrews entered Egypt (Exodus 12:40,41) 430 years before deliverance.
3. Nisan 17, Moses led the Israelites through the Parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 3:18, 5:3).
4. Nisan 17, Israel entered and ate the first fruit of the Promised Land (Joshua 5:10-12)
5. Nisan 17, The cleansing for the Temple by Hezekiah (eight hundred years after entering the promised land. (2 Chronicles 29:1-28.)
6. Nisan 17, Queen Esther saved the Jews from Elimination (Esther 3:12, 5:1)
7. Nisan 17, The Resurrection of The Messiah Jesus Christ the Only Begotten Son of God (think about it).

Notes

1. Noah’s Ark

The Hebrew New Year begins in the month of Nisan (April of the contemporary calendar). However, there is another calendar that may have been used to account for the days of the Flood. This account is documented in an ancient Jewish commentary on the Genesis passage. You can explore the details if you wish, but the net result is an amazing statement of God’s engineering of history. According to this ancient calendar, the ark rested on the mountain on precisely the same day that Jesus was resurrected from the tomb. Yes, that’s right. Thousands of years before the resurrection, God engineered history to point toward the pinnacle event of salvation. Just as the ancient judgment ended on the day the ark touched ground, so the judgment of the restored world ended on the same day of the year when the tomb could not hold Him for all who will accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

2. Entered Egypt

The Hebrews entered Egypt 430 years to the day they exited (see #3 below)

3. Crossing the Red Sea

Moses recorded the fact that Israel crossed over the Red Sea and physically left the land of Egypt on the 17th of Nisan in (Numbers 33:1-8). 1)These are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. 2) And Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the LORD: and these are their journeys according to their goings out. 3) And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; (Nisan) on the morrow after the Passover (still the 15th) the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians. (Remember, Israel’s days start at sunset). 4) For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed judgments. 5) And the children of Israel removed from Rameses, and pitched in Succoth. (Evening of the 15th). 6) And they departed from Succoth, and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness. (Evening of 16th). 7) And they removed from Etham, and turned again unto Pi-hahiroth, which is before Baal-zephon: and they pitched before Migdol. (Evening of the 17th). 8) And they departed (morning of the 17th) from before Pi-hahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah.”

4. Ate Fruit in Promised Land

Nisan 17^th  Exodus 12:37-39. On this same date, 40 years later, Joshua would meet “the Commander of the army of the Lord” which begins Day 1 of the 7 day Battle for Jericho according to Joshua 5:13-6:5.On Nisan 16 was the last day God rained Manna. Joshua 5:12. On Nisan 17 Israel ate the first fruits of the promised land.

5. Hezekiah

Immediately upon becoming king, Hezekiah commenced a great religious reform. In eight days they had re-opened the great Temple of Solomon and cleansed it of defilement (2 Chronicles 29:1-17). The cleansing of the temple was not completed until the sixteenth day of the first month (Nisan). On the 17^th they began the sacrifices in the house of the Lord. (2 Chronicles 29:18-36).

6. Queen Esther

Haman, had convinced the king to sign a decree to destroy the Hebrews (Esther 3:1-12). The decree went out on the 13^th day of Nisan (Esther 3:12). Esther then proclaimed a three day fast (Esther 4:16) for the 14th, 15th and 16th. On the 3rd day (5:1) Esther approached the king saying to herself ‘If I perish, I perish!’ (an attitude of death or resurrection… it’s in God’s hands!) On the 17^th day of Nisan, the tables were turned on the enemy Haman, and instead of the Jews being destroyed, his own life was taken! 7)The Commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem by Artaxerxes, (King Of Persia) was given in the month of Nisan, (Nehemiah 2:1-8). Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected  in the month of Nisan, see our class on the amazing prophesy of Daniel Chapter 9. *Do you have any idea how many scholars, scribes, and men and women of God have given their time, their energy, their wealth, and even their very lives to pass on the scriptures for us in the End Times?

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers for thereby many have entertained Angels unawares.”(Hebrews 13:2) I have had some heavy experiences with Angels, and I bet you have to. If not you will. What if the Lord sent an Angel to you and you witnessed to him or her, and that Angel reported in and said this person witnessed to me and tried to get me saved. I bet you that the Lord would really be pleased with you and bless you for doing that. You know we are surrounded by Angels who minister to us. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” (Hebrews 12:1) The Bible even says we shall judge Angels. WOW… How about that? There are good Angels and there are bad Angels. “No marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an Angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). So don’t be deceived. Satan can transform himself into a beautiful woman (the ultimate transvestite?) In the end time there will be many false prophets and false Christ’s. The false prophet will even do signs and wonders, pulling down fire from the sky. (See our class on Revelation Chapter 13).  The Anti-Christ will even be raised from a deadly wound trying to imitate Jesus Christ. Even now there are many false teachers and cults out there trying to lure you into them. Even in the so called Christian world. So watch out. “If they speak not according to this Word it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20). “But though we, or an Angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8). One of the sure signs of a cult is when they they deny the deity of Jesus Christ and they start thinking that they have the corner market on God or in other words their group is the only right church or group and everyone else is wrong. Just stick with Jesus and the Bible and follow him and his Word and you’ll be safe. Most of these false churches, and cults have some guru or leader or prophet that they claim is the mouth piece of God and they almost worship, or do worship him or her. They tell you some truth to get you suckered into their way of thinking, but Jesus said “If the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness?” (Mathew 6:23). “If you continue in my Word then are you my disciples in deed and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me.” (John 14:6).
